August- James Delgado Wins 8 Singles Matches at Kalamazoo
GTP started off the month of August with 11 players competing in the USTA Hard Court National Championships. GTP players that qualified for this prestige tournament included Brianna Baldi (12), Mark Taranov (14), Carter McWhorter (14), Warren McWhorter (14), Braden Shick (14), James Delgado (15), Sophie Strugnell (15), Drew Broadstreet (16), Peyton Gatti (16), and Amber Fuller (16), and Carolyn Ansari (17).
James Delgado had an amazing tournament playing in the Boy’s 16’s at Hard Courts in Kalamazoo, Michagan. James Delgado won 8 matches in singles and 7 of those 8 wins were three set matches. James represented GTP well showing tremendous professionalism throughout the entire week. He even got a doubles win with GTP teammate Peyton Gatti.
Taking place during Hard Court Nationals was the North Carolina Summer State Closed NCL1 Championship where GTP had 18 players participating. This tournament is one of the three state championships throughout the year. Here are some of the top performers from the 5 day tournament.
14- year old Reagan Harris won both the singles and doubles title in the Girl’s 14’s division. 11- year old Andrea Chacon placed 4th in singles and runner up in doubles with GTP partner Amelie Gonzalez (12) in the Girl’s 12’s. In the Boy’s 16’s division Tyler Juergens placed 3rd in singles. In Girl’s 18’s 16- year old Emmy Brandow earned 4th place. Mason Kolls in the Boy’s 18’s division.
